Fantasy/Science Fiction

Do you like to read fantasy or science fiction?  Why or why not?
Typically, I don't read, but when I do it's usually fiction.  There's something about a sense of something that isn't real that seems more interesting than reality.  I used to read all the time when I was younger, and all those books I did read were either fantasy or science fiction.

What fantasy or science fiction location from a novel (or movie) is your favorite?  Would you want to go there yourself?  Why or why not?
It may seem like a cliche, but I believe Earth in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) could be my favorite location of all the fiction books and movies I've read/seen.  I'm mainly interested in the aspect of the ancient arts, Doctor Strange's movie, in particular.  I would be very interested in going there myself due to how the magic they can produce is able to be done by anyone.  The idea that I would be able to participate in these practices without any special birthright/talent sounds great.

  1. I think Marvel is a great fantasy universe to get behind. I personally don’t follow Marvel that closely, but from a casual point of view I do enjoy the movies that I do happen to watch.

  2. Joe, I agree. I like that you can make up your own ideas and make the books/ movies more interesting.

  3. I'm a huge Marvel fan and can totally get behind this. Although Dr. Strange isn't my favorite Avenger, he's still interesting and different from all the others, so I still like him. Stan Lee was the GOAT.

  4. I also really enjoy marvel movies and think it would be sweet to be in one with super powers or just being able to hang out with the avengers.

Literacy Program Project Proposal

Short Proposal: For this project, I intend on doing a poster campaign. Detailed Proposal: This poster campaign will take place in three different locations in the school, one for each wing of the building.  Each poster I intend on looking the same, but in my head, the base design will still pop out.  It will consist of a title near the top to lure in any that choose to look at the boards these will be posted on.  The base design, as previously noted, will pop out due to a more abstract approach with colors that are complementary in a graphic design-ish format.  On the poster(s) there will be boxes of text, or just text, that will promote the message of the project, "read".

TEDxCL Reflection

This Ted Talk is about how little actions can have large effects.  It also focuses on how many little actions can bind together also have a large effect. Reflection What I Knew (And didn’t know about my topic when I started out)              The idea of cause and effect (I believe) is very prominent within our everyday lives, so of course, I knew how to bring it into my presentation.  However, the idea of causality was new to me but was nonetheless interesting to bring into the presentation.  Along with "cause and effect", I already knew the schools of philosophy I brought up (Existentialism, Relativism, Determinism) due to another thing I already knew about, the show "The Good Place".  Then there's also the whole idea of cause and effect within physics and ethics.  The ideas are brought up quite often in my life, probably due to how I go to U of D. Why I Selected This Topic           ...

Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour Bookstore Review

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan follows the main character, Clay Jannon, in a series of events relating to a mysterious bookstore in San Fransisco.  This bookstore is owned by Mr. Penumbra, a lanky old man who is also surprisingly physically able. Mr. Penumbra offers Clay a job as a night shift check out clerk and he accepts.  During his time in the bookstore, Clay sees some odd faces come in and out, borrowing these ancient large leather-bound books from the back of the bookstore. Soon enough, Clay looks at one of these books, even when he was instructed not to, and what he sees inside sparks his curiosity and he is then sent onto a series of mysterious events leading to an eventual amazing revelation. As stated in the previous paragraph, there are many events that occur in this book, each one making the story more complex and intriguing.  At one point, Clay is solving a complex puzzle just to see if he can, then not long after he’s traveling to an ...
